THE EDITORS: The percentage of U.S. adults who are obese is dangerously
high. To fight the fat, we need strategies such as refocusing crop and
insurance subsidies away from corn and other commodities toward
vegetables, encouraging restaurants to limit portion sizes and using
tax breaks to lure fresh-food grocers to neighborhoods that need them.

And in Egypt, THE EDITORS write, the presidential election May 23 and
24 offers a chance to revive the shaky U.S.-Egypt relationship. Before
restoring aid and resuming debt talks, the U.S. should impose one
condition: “that the military council truly cedes power to a civilian
