MICHAEL KINSLEY: “The basic case against New York Mayor Michael
Bloomberg's latest crusade, to outlaw the sale of extra-large sugared
soft drinks, is Libertarianism 101.” The case for the ban is in some

THE EDITORS: Congress shouldn't repeal the tax on the sale of medical
devices, a part of President Obama’s health reform law. “Just about
everything the medical-device industry says about the tax is either
untrue or exaggerated. Lawmakers shouldn't be so gullible, even when --
perhaps especially when -- industry lobbyists produce studies backing
their claims.” [Link] And in Europe, THE EDITORS write, EU leaders
should consider two new proposals – “a ‘banking union’ to shore up the
EU’s beleaguered financial system, and a ‘redemption pact’ to guarantee
the solvency of Europe’s debt-stressed governments.” [Link]
