<P><FONT face=Calibri>There’s a phrase I often hear when people talk to me about my son, Russ. They say: “He took time for me.” Then they tell me about the time and effort he put forth to do something meaningful for them or a member of their family. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Calibri>I am always pleased to hear those stories, but not surprised, because that’s just the way Russ is--and always has been. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Calibri>His commitment to the needs of others, his willingness to listen and to go to bat for those who need help have been key to his being elected time and again, even in very difficult primary and general election campaigns. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Calibri>In a recent interview, I was asked to describe what it is about Russ that I felt makes him such a great Congressman for the St. Louis area. I replied that like his father, he always gives 200% to anything he does—he goes the second mile; works twice as hard; and puts in twice the time to make sure a job is done right. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Calibri>If there was any one thing Mel and I wanted our children to learn from our dinner table discussions, it was that politics is not about power, perks and privilege; it’s about public service - - not what you get but what you give. It is about what you can do each day to make a difference for others. These may seem like old-fashioned values, but they are still important today in our family.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Calibri>Now that we will be having only one Democratic Congressional seat from the St. Louis area, it is more essential than ever that it be someone who has shown true dedication to public service and knows how to get things done. Russ has proven his ability to make a difference for St. Louis and now you can make a difference for Russ. </FONT></P>
