It's been an exciting year so far for Madison. We secured a victory
for our client [2]OPower, by working to improve the regulatory
environment in the Commonwealth of Virginia for energy efficiency
firms. We continue to do advanced work on federal financial
regulation, including the ongoing implementation of the Dodd-Frank
bill.

My recent writing on public affairs included a piece for the Richmond
Times-Dispatch on [3]President Obama's proposed Defense budget and
events throughout Virginia focused on education policy with the [4]New
Dominion Project PAC, which I chair. For me, however, the most
important news was on the personal front -- I was married on March 31st
to Ms. Emily Blout. Our wedding was [5]featured in the New York Times.

Vlasic now a Principal
Mark Vlasic has become a Principal of Madison Law & Strategy Group,
PLLC. He leads Madison's international practice. In addition to his
international law, asset recovery, public policy, and business
diplomacy/intelligence roles at Madison, and his teaching role at
Georgetown University Law Center, he was recently elected to the Board
of Directors of the White House Fellow Foundation & Association and the
Fulbright Association in DC. Ever active in World Bank and United
Nations-related matters, he recently returned from a United Nations
Alliance of Civilizations delegation to Morocco, Jordan and Saudi
Arabi, where he met with senior government, civil society and education
leaders.

Mark has recently published pieces, among others, in the [7]New York
Times regarding asset recovery, the [8]Washington Times
regarding Charles Taylor, the [9]Huffington Post regarding Libya and
asset recovery, [10]the Guardian regarding Cambodian justice, and the
[11]Huffington Post regarding piracy. Most recently, his Georgetown
Journal of International Law article on assassinations and targeted
killing was listed as a [12]"must read" by the Council on Foreign
Relations.

Arkedis joins as Senior Advisor
Jim Arkedis is now Senior Advisor to Madison Strategies, LLC. Jim is a
strategic advisor who focuses on the intersection of policy, politics
and media. His experience includes working for a Washington, DC think
tank, consulting on political campaign, counseling non-profit groups on
strategic communication, and working in the intelligence community.

In addition to his work with Madison, Jim is a senior fellow at the
Progressive Policy Institute, where he also directs foreign policy and
national security work.

He's published and edited white papers on the defense budget, China's
military, the US economy, and political messaging. His work has been
published in the Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times,
The Atlantic Magazine, and Foreign Policy Magazine, and he's appeared
on CNN, Fox News, and BBC. He is a Fellow with the Truman National
Security Project. Jim was an intelligence specialist with the Naval
Criminal Investigative Service at the Department of Defense.

Jim has written hundreds of detailed analyses of terrorist threats the
United States Navy and Marine Corps and participated in offensive
counter-terrorism operations and investigations in Europe and North
Africa.
