better-educated states have survived the Great Recession in better
shape than less-educated areas. So instead of targeting aid to

RAMESH PONNURU: "Mitt Romney, so long bedeviled by the politics of
health care, may be about to make another serious mistake." He's
dredging up a Bush administration proposal for a tax deduction for
health insurance fees. That won't do much for the uninsured. Better to
use a tax credit -- which sounds similar but is a whole different

MEGHAN O’SULLIVAN: The discoveries of large underwater gas fields in
Israeli waters could bring the country “economic and political benefits
as well as regional clout.” But if it turns out that the fields
straddle contested boundaries, will regional politics trump economics?

JEFFREY GOLDBERG: The intelligence operation against the latest
underwear bomb succeeded because it took place close to the source of
the plot; otherwise, even the head of the TSA admits that its
technology might not be able to stop innovative new bombs. “If the only
thing standing in between the bomber and the successful completion of
his mission is an organization like the TSA, bet on the bomber.”

THE EDITORS: The “shareholder spring” protests against high executive
pay are a welcome development in the campaign to hold top executives
accountable. “European Union regulators are now considering a next
step: giving owners a binding vote on top pay instead of the
non-binding ‘say on pay.’” [Link] And in Greece THE EDITORS write,
Alexis Tsipras and his Syriza party are “selling the Greek people a
falsehood: namely, that Greece can renounce the terms of its bailout
agreements with the euro zone governments and still receive their
money.” [Link]
