Rick--thanks for the update. The WFP/USA's leadership on this initiative has been critical to its success. Sounds like next week will be filled with activities relating to the food security issue--several stake holder outreach calls, the Chicago Council event that Dan and others are playing such a key role in and where the President is now speaking and then the G-8 summit. It would be great if we could highlight this road map as part of these activities next week. Thanks Rick. As you know, WFP USA led the effort over the last 6 months among leading NGOs to develop this document. The Roadmap describes the comprehensive strategy required to increase global food security (including emergency response, nutrition, safety net and agricultural development programs), reviews progress achieved over the last three years towards the goals set forth in the original Roadmap, and offers recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of US food security programs. In addition to identifying steps that can be taken to enhance the effectiveness of US food security operations, the Roadmap provides a basis for legislation to institutionalize the administration’s overall food security strategy (and authorize the “coordination mechanism” that we’ve discussed) and to further mobilize support for the 2013 appropriations. Our core partners - Bread for the World, Congressional Hunger Center, CARE, Catholic Relief Services, Mercy Corps, Save the Children and Women Thrive Worldwide - have endorsed the Roadmap and we will begin the process of engaging other NGOs later this week. We expect to officially launch the Roadmap in mid June. Thanks again for your support and commitment to alleviating global hunger.
