Wednesday - May 23, 2012 From the School Calling Quakers Baseball Fans! Come and cheer on the SFS Quakers Varsity Baseball team on Thursday, May 24, 4:30 pm at home as they play St. Albans in the important "play-in" game for the DC Classic. The winner of Thursday's game will play Maret in the DC Classic private school championship game at Nats Stadium, Sunday, May 27 at 9:30 am, and the winner of that game will go on to play DC public school champion Wilson HS at 5:30 pm. The Quakers are the defending DC Classic champions, so let's get behind the team and help rally them to victory (and an exciting day at Nats Stadium) on Thursday. Kick-off summer by playing in the Sidwell Friends School Golf Tournament! The Sidwell Friends School Golf Tournament will be Monday, June 18, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Kenwood Country Club. Join fellow parents, teachers and alumni for a great day of golf while raising money for student financial aid. We welcome players of all levels and we encourage you to bring your family for a great day of golf and fun. Your afternoon on the course will be followed by a cocktail reception and award ceremony. Don't worry if you don't have someone to play with because we will be creating teams for people that sign up as an individual. We hope you will register today or sign-up to be a sponsor to help make this event a hole in one! For information on registering and additional information on the tournament and sponsorship opportunities click here. Please contact the Events for Student Scholarships office at events@sidwell.edu or (202) 537-8110 if you have any questions. Next-to-New Sale Be among the 100+ volunteers that it takes to run the SFS Next-to-New Sale, the School’s hugely popular sale of quality used items. The Next-to-New Sale is an event that touches the lives of those both inside and outside the Sidwell community. It brings people together, offers great bargains, benefits outside organizations, and raises money for financial aid. The sale will run October 18-20 with collection and sorting beginning in September. Show your interest by signing up now (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/805094DA8A6292-sfsnext) and one of the leaders of the sale will contact you at the beginning of the school year with more information. Signing up does not commit you to anything; it just gets you on the list to hear more detailed information in September. We need your help and the more people involved the more fun it is! It's a great way to meet other parents in the school and to give back. Donate: We will begin accepting donations the first week of school and hope you will save your items. If you are moving this summer and need to donate items before September, please contact the Events for Student Scholarships office at 202-537-8110 or by e-mail at events@sidwell.edu. We are also looking for moving boxes. PA Announcements June 2nd Senior Family Celebration - rsvp NOW Dear Parents of Seniors -- You all should have received an invitation to the Class of 2012 celebration taking place on June 2nd, starting at 6:30 pm. In addition to the Seniors, parents and siblings are invited to an evening of dinner, activities, video, and reminiscing. The celebration takes place at school. (Please email Joan only if you haven't yet sent in your response.) Other News Quaker Quotes "We need to re-envision our children constantly, allow them to change in our mind's eye at least half as quickly as they are in fact changing. The revelations provided by our kids make parenting much like being part of a collage or moving sculpture, like weaving a tapestry that continually changes in hue and texture." Judy Nicholson, Teacher at Westttown School “Quaker Quotes” is a weekly submission by Melissa Belman, melissa@ecologicflooring.com, Holly Moore, htmoore@gmail.com, and Cindy Terrell, ctcabin@gmail.com. We welcome ideas. Early Childhood Center ISO Strollers Sidwell’s Early Childhood Center is looking for multiple seat stroller donations. If your children have grown out of their stroller (preferably ones that have 2-3 seats), and you are wondering what to do with it, we would be more than happy to accept it as a donation. Please contact the center’s director, Cady Eddy eddyc@sidwell.edu or (202) 537-6998 with donations. Thank you! US Wednesday Newsletter Information How to Submit an Article to the Wednesday Letter.
