Dear Friend, Next week is National Charter Schools Week, a time to showcase achievements of charter schools in local communities (like yours!) that are working tirelessly to close achievement gaps and elevate learning across the nation. The first charter school was opened in Minnesota 21 years ago, and today there are approximately 6,200 charter schools serving over two million students across the country. Charter school enrollment continues to rise, but more action is needed to continue the expansion of high-quality charter schools and reach the hundreds of thousands of students on waiting lists every year. Next week, tell people about charter schools – talk to your local newspaper, inform friends and neighbors, and use social media to get the word out that charter schools are improving education every day. Use the [1]resources on our website to learn the most effective ways to reach out to others in your community about charter schools. Make the most of National Charter Schools Week by letting people know the positive role charter schools are playing in your community! Please also consult our [2]Parent Power Index© (PPI) to find out whether or not your state has implemented policies that empower parents to make decisions for the education of their children. Since 1993, CER has been the leading voice and advocate for lasting, and substantive education reform in the U.S. We’ve worked, and continue to work, with lawmakers across the country to draft and create strong charter school laws. If you have any questions about National Charter Schools Week, please don’t hesitate to contact Patrick Burke in Media Relations at 301-986-8088 or email Patrick@edreform.com. Thank you.
