From: Allen, Elizabeth M. Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2011 10:12 AM To: Smith, Michele Subject: VP's appearance on The View Good morning! The Vice President will appear live on ABC's The View this morning at 11:00 AM. The VP is expected go to on stage at 11:20 am for the remainder of the show until 12:00 noon. Below is a breakdown of the show and ABC's press release about this special edition of The View, focused on teen dating violence and sexual assault among young people. The idea for this show was borne out of an off-the-record meeting that the VP held with Barbara Walters last Spring in NYC, at which time she committed to joining him to bring attention to this issue. * The show will be divided into 6 live segments. * The first two segments will focus on hot topics, during which the VP will not participate. * The VP will be announced out to stage for the 3rd - 5th segments of the show: o Part 1 of 3 (approximately 4 minutes): general interest, news of the day o Part 2 of 3 (approximately 7-8 minutes): discussion focuses entirely on VAWA/teen dating violence & sexual assault issues: o Part 3 of 3: the VP will remain seated with co-hosts of The View on the couch, but special guests Anne Burke (parent of victim) and Johanna Orozco (young victim) will be introduced out and interviewed [cid:image001.jpg@01CC7790.9C143DF0] VICE PRESIDENT JOSEPH R. BIDEN TO DISCUSS ISSUE OF DATING VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT AFFECTING TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS, LIVE, ON "THE VIEW," TUESDAY, SEPT. 27 Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie, executive producers of the ABC's Daytime Emmy(r) award-winning talk show, "The View," announced today that Joseph R. Biden, the 47th Vice President of the United States, will be the special guest, live, TUESDAY, SEPT. 27 (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET). The Vice President will focus on the threat of dating violence and sexual assault that continues to exist for teens and young adults across the country. The Vice President's appearance is part of "Red, White & View" continuing the show's commitment to political guests and discussions. The author of the landmark Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Vice President Biden has led the effort to combat violence against women for over 20 years. He continues the cause today leading the fight from the White House. Over the past year, in response to the high rates of violence and abuse that continue to face young women under the age of 24, Vice President Biden has refocused his longstanding commitment to reducing violence against women specifically on teens and young adults. Under the Vice President's leadership, the Administration has undertaken a wide range of new and innovative efforts to address the issue. Just last week, in a video message released via Twitter and YouTube, Vice President Biden launched the "1is2Many" project calling on high school and college-aged students to share their ideas for how to prevent dating violence and sexual assault at the schools and on their campuses. "The View" made history on April 22, 2010 when, for the first time, a sitting Vice President was a featured guest on the show. During that appearance, Vice President Biden candidly answered questions on topics ranging from foreign policy and Sarah Palin, to taxes and UN sanctions against Iran. Vice President Biden previously appeared on "The View" on Sept. 24, 2007 when he was a Senator and was promoting his book Promises To Keep: On Life and Politics. ###
