The economy added 213,000 jobs in June, the Labor Department reported today, down from 244,000 in May.

The unemployment rate ticked up to 4 percent after falling to 3.8 percent in May. Average hourly private-sector earnings were unchanged, up 2.7 percent over the previous year.

Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted the creation of 190,000 jobs, an increase in over-the-year hourly earnings of 2.8 percent and an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent.
