Dear NDI Chairman's Council Members, Yesterday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing on the state of democracy in fragile states, including both threats and success stories, with Carl Gershman (NED), Dan Twining (IRI) and myself as witnesses. The hearing lasted three hours and was very well attended. Members stayed until the very end patiently waiting to ask their questions, with over two dozen members in attendance. Chairman Royce, Ranking Member Engel and the entire committee expressed deep, bipartisan support for democracy assistance in general and the efforts of NDI, IRI and the NED in particular. The hearing was a powerful statement of support for our work. Attached is my testimony. Best, Ken Kenneth Wollack President National Democratic Institute 455 Massachusetts Ave., NW, 8th Floor Washington, DC 20001 202-728-5500 (Tel) 888-875-2887 (Fax) email: ken@ndi.org website: www.ndi.or
