Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) lost his primary Tuesday, as GOP voters rejected one of President Donald Trump's most prominent Republican critics in Congress.

State Rep. Katie Arrington had 50.6 percent of the primary vote to Sanford's 46.5 percent when the Associated Press called the race with 99 percent of precincts reported.

Sanford's frequent critiques of the president's rhetoric and fiscal policy were denying district residents "a seat at the table" in Washington, Arrington told POLITICO last week. She ran as an ally of Trump.
