PROCESSED
Good Morning! I wanted to share a brief update and some good news. As you can see from the email below we are now fully trademarked! While the process was not inexpensive, I believe it was absolutely necessary. We have also contracted with Corporation Services Company to finalize and maintain our charitable registrations in all states where required. Obtaining and maintaining registration is a huge job, but necessary. Likewise, we are currently undergoing an independent certified audit, to insure that we are carrying out and implementing best practices for nonprofits. We continue to interview facilitators for our strategic planning process- we hope to have that wrapped up by the end of the month. Dominique Oppenheimer, our former public ally, has joined us as a full time employee effective July 14, 2018, handling the volunteers, and coordinating the new program development. We extended an offer to Dan Sanchez to join the team as the Communications Director; he accepted and will join us on September 4th. Our team will continue to grow as we take Beau’s mission across this country. As we discussed at the last meeting, we have been working on the Special Olympics partnership- including the announcement plan specifics. We will let you know when the plan has been developed. To that end we have hired a firm to assist with the roll-out of that event. This past week we co-hosted a 2 day conference - Protecting the Future with Best Practices Today- the Institute for Trauma Infomed Care. A little over 100 professionals- mental health providers, educators, lawyers and law enforcement personnel attended. Internationally recognized child abuse survivor and advocate Juan Carlos Cruz was one of the keynote speakers. Juan Carlos is now a new friend of BBF, tweeting about his presentation and the BBF. He plans to be at the Reception on September 24th. We have had 2 more nationwide organizations reach out to discuss working with us, thanks to some great contacts of Josh, and both are impressive organizations. One you may be familiar with —RAICES—REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND LEGAL SERVICES—is handling the issues involving families separated at the border. The other is a Shield of Protection partnership with Friends of the Children. Our initial partnership will be with Friends of the Children-Boston, but the Boston Director advised us that the national organization is interested in discussing nationwide implementation. Please remember the primary fundraiser for the year, the Golf and Tennis Tournament, Silent Auction and Reception is on September 24th. If you know anyone who would like to play, attend, donate or sponsor please let us know ASAP. Foursomes and tennis spots are still available. Sponsorships are always welcome, from major sponsors—$5000 and up, to Hole sponsors at $600, as are donations to the silent auction. Our Race for Child Protection will be held on November 11th at the Wilmington Riverfront. That is also Veterans Day and we will pay tribute to the Military which Beau loved so much. When you get a chance, please check out some new BBF branded merchandise on our web site. Yesterday I green lighted the inventory for our online store, which will launch in the next few weeks. Josh deserves the credit for this—it was an enormous amount of work. Please outfit your friends and family in BBF gear. We have tried to keep the prices reasonable. The selection is great. We will be adding merchandise from time to time, so please let us know your ideas. Thank you all for what you do for the Beau Biden Foundation! We are able to grow into the national organization that will lead youth serving organizations across this country in the development and implementation of best practices, policies, procedures and programming to protect our children because of your commitment. Earlier today, we received the United States Patent and Trademark Registrations for the following trademarks: (1) the word mark BEAU BIDEN FOUNDATION FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN (Registration Number 5,533,491 (attached)), and (2) the stylized design mark of the BEAU BIDEN FOUNDATION unfolded bird wing embedded within a shield, encompassed in a rectangle (Registration Number 5,533,492 (also attached)). Instructions for renewal of the marks are included with each of the attached PDFs, but the next important date will be filing a Declaration of Use between the 5th and 6th years of registration. We can discuss in more detail at your convenience, if you like. Going forward, when you use these marks, include the ® (in place of the ™) as notice to potential infringers that the marks are federally-registered and will be protected. Any questions, feel free to give a call. Also, do you want us to send you the originals with the shiny gold foil seals, or would you prefer we keep them with our office file? Best, Michael Michael C.
