Hi there,

I want to tell you a quick story about why my dad is my hero.

My dad gave me my love for politics. More than that, he taught me how to carry myself and what it meant to be a good person. I've always worked to be as good of a son as he is a father.

My dad is not only a good father, but also a patriotic American and a proud gay man. So when, in my native Indiana, then-Governor Mike Pence supported a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in 2014, I knew I had to act.

Luckily, I knew the man who was building a grassroots opposition movement against this hateful ballot measure -- my dad. Using the same kind of organizing tactics I'm deploying here in Arizona, my dad stopped Mike Pence and his Republican friends in their tracks, defeating the measure before it even went to the ballot.

My dad knows what it takes to run a successful campaign. And he knows what's at risk if we lose. I know I'm not the only one whose dad is his hero. So this Father's Day, do something to honor the example set forth by our dads. I know I will.
