Dear Friends of ACT *for* NIH: *Today, we are announcing to the press and the research advocacy community that Dr. Jim Allison is joining the ACT for NIH Advisory Committee. Dr. Allison is the Chair of the Department of Immunology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and is Executive Director of the Center’s Immunotherapy Platform. Work in his lab led to the development of ipilumumab, an antibody which became the first new wave of cancer immunotherapies and is prescribed to patients with metastatic melanoma, cutaneous melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, and lung cancer. He is a member of the National Academies of Science and Medicine, and he won the Lasker-Debakey Clinical Medical Research Award in 2015. In the time I have known Jim, he has been a persuasive advocate with Members of Congress who want to know more about his work and NIH’s role in funding breakthrough treatments.Attached is our press release, and we look forward to working with such a prestigious advocate for the restoration of NIH funding. My best,Pat WhitePresidentACT for NIH
