Dear Hunter:

Attached is a shortened version. As you will see, we have cut about 2/3 of a page of text and eliminated a number of the secondary points from the story. It is now less than 2 pages, but not quite down to 1-1/2 pages. Please take another look and let us know if this will do. If you think it still needs to be shorter, it would be great if you could suggest (with fresh eyes) what to cut.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This paper tells the true and unvarnished facts. As such, it is ultra ultra sensitive. If this paper were to fall into the wrong hands, it could lead to severe repercussions for NW Bio. So, please only give the paper in PDF format and please only to Patty herself – not her staff. If that’s not possible, and you have to give it to her staff, please tell us before you give it to them, and we will make a sanitized version.

FYI, we submitted our reply letter to FDA today, requesting a formal in-person meeting with us and our independent experts. It will be interesting to see whether FDA grants us the meeting (which is absolutely the normal thing to do)…. or refuses to meet with us, as the DMC did last summer….

Thanks very much for your feedback. Appreciate it. We literally just filed our reply letter with FDA (at 3:58 pm!... ahead of 4 pm cutoff). So, now we can turn back to this memo and take another crack at shortening it. Do you have any suggestions about what to cross out? We will aim to get a reduced version back to you this evening.

Thank you for putting this together. I think it is really important to get this down to no more than 1 1/2 pages. My suggestion would be to stick with the key issue and request for this 1-pager as you will have other opportunities to expand on the background later down the road. We have been working all day with the statisticians in regard to the updated data (still on a blinded basis). We just got off a conf call with them, receiving the data and…. it is excellent! Would you like to hear it (under our CDA)? We can give you a quick call. [?]

Attached is the mostly-but-not-completely finished 1-pager that I drafted during the weekend. It was devilishly difficult to make it tight enough. Comments welcome. I’m about to turn back to finishing the last 2 points as noted in the paper.

We have not reached out to Chris yet but plan to do so first thing in the morning, now that we have the update data and we know that it’s good.
