** Pro-Women Legislation in Pakistan

Tuesday, Jan. 15: Featuring Dr. Fouzia Saeed, Director of Mehergarh, an Islamabad-based human rights and democracy center. The passage of seven pro-women laws in 2010 by the current democratic government in Pakistan was a major breakthrough after a gap of five decades of no legal remedy for human rights of women. This set a precedent of citizens and elected representatives working together successfully. While Pakistani women continue to experience discrimination and violence in their lives, the passage of the legislation is seen as a big leap forward.
