Our New Favorite Garment: the Assos haBu Jacket
Winter's in full swing, and if you find yourself
struggling to stay warm on chilly rides there's no time like the present for a new
jacket. Our favorite (and one of Gonzalo's Five Essentials below) is the Assos haBu
jacket.
This highly breathable garment is rated for 43 to 53 degree weather, but Gonzalo
wears it in even colder temps by layering his long sleeve CycleLife jersey underneath.
Assos' body-mapping pattern means this product is designed for maximum breathability,
with wicking fabrics sewn into the areas where your body will sweat. So while the
jacket will definitely keep you warm, you're much less likely to get sweaty on long
climbs.
Another nice attribute is the cell phone holder integrated into the upper right
sleeve. This mesh pocket neatly accommodates touch screen phones, making it a snap
to change songs while riding. The haBu jacket also looks great with a variety of
other apparel. Mechanic Matt says that he's never seen someone who doesn't look
good in it - so odds are you will too! A nice stretch fabric, strong zipper, and
water-proof front, as well as zip security pockets in the back, round out this jacket's
best features.

CycleLife Friend, Ben, Vies for Win in Strava Base Mile Blast Competition
Running and cycling GPS tracking site, Strava, started the New Year off by issuing
a challenge to its users - ride as many miles as you can in the month of January,
competing against other athletes to see who can log the most.
CycleLife regular, Ben, eagerly accepted this invitation, setting out to pedal his
way to victory over more than 32,000 other participants. As of the writing of this
article, he stood at sixth place, having racked up close to 2,000 miles in just
30 rides.
Ben spends most of his riding time out on Hains Point. If you see him out there
some day this month, help give him a pull and be sure to wish him luck. You can

Welcome New Staff Member: Amanda Gilbert

If you haven't already met CycleLife's newest team member, be sure to stop by and
introduce yourself to Amanda.

Amanda is an accomplished racer with years of experience in the cycling industry.
She'll be offering her expertise as a fit technician and sharing her wealth of knowledge
on all things cycling with our community. You can also catch her on the Saturday
ride at 9:00am, or on the recently added Sunday ride at 10:00am, which is a 60-mile
loop out to Poolesville and back. She looks forward to meeting you!

Gonzalo's Five Essentials
What are your five cycling essentials - the five things you couldn't (or wouldn't
want to) do without? CycleLife's General Manager, Gonzalo, recently shared with
us his must-haves:

1. Dragon Eye Oolong Tea - Available at the CycleLife Cafe - give it a try the next
time you're in the shop.
2. Wool buff - This versatile piece is great because it's not bulky, yet it's surprisingly
warm, whether worn as a head wrap, neck gaiter, or face mask.
3. Assos haBu jacket - The zipped pockets on this jacket really come in handy and
give you peace of mind that your stuff is secure. That goes double for the mesh
cell phone holder on the right arm, which allows you to use your phone's touch screen
through the sleeve.
4. Assos leg warmers.s7 - Gonzalo likes that these leg warmers cover "half your
butt and most of your thighs" for extra warmth.
5. Fresh Speedplay zero cleats and stainless steel carbon sole protectors - It's
easy to forget, but these should be replaced every 5,000 miles.
