I'd like to issue you a challenge, Robert. Today is Women's Equality Day, but true gender equality in America is still an aspiration, not a done deal. So this November, let's pledge to use the most powerful tool we have to make equality a reality: our votes.

Women's Equality Day marks the anniversary of the 19th Amendment's adoption, which granted many women the right to vote (though it took several decades for women of color to be able to fully exercise that right). And go figure - almost a century since women's suffrage, we're having to take to the streets again today to stop Trump's Supreme Court nomination and protect women's rights. It just makes me think: Maybe if we had more women and feminist allies in our government, we wouldn't have to be fighting these battles at all.

The fact is, the stakes have never been higher for women than in 2018. I'm fired up about the unprecedented level of activism we're seeing, from the Women's March to this fight for Roe v. Wade. And I'm especially excited to see a record-breaking number of passionate, accomplished women running for office - including some incredible candidates here in California. But it's not enough to march, talk, tweet for women's equality - we have to vote for it.

So this Women's Equality Day, I want you to join me in pledging to vote for candidates who'll fight for women. Let's take an unequivocal stand for gender equality - take the pledge now!
