Subject: The passing of Mary Chambliss


Greetings to all;

We lost our dear friend Mary this morning.

Below is a message from her son Dean:


Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to tell you that my beloved mother Mary Teaford Chambliss passed away this morning at 2am, 8 January 2013. She was 70 years old. As many of you know, Mary had a short but intense battle with cancer (up to now the doctors do not know exactly which one, likely pancreatic or liver). She was not in pain and died peacefully in her sleep.


There will be a memorial service this coming Saturday 12 January starting at 1pm at the Demaine Memorial Chapel at 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 (a map can be viewed here <http://www.dignitymemorial.com/dm20/en_US/locations/48/4854/directions.page?> ). This service will be preceded by visitation hours from 11am to 1pm.


The subsequent burial service will likely be delayed by several weeks or longer, as Mary will be buried at Arlington Cemetery with my father (the wait list for burial at Arlington is considerable). I will keep you informed of the date and time when I know it.


I would like to thank you for the great love and concern that so many of you have shown to my mother and to me during these last weeks. For those of you considering sending flowers, I would like to suggest that instead you make a donation to the World Food Programme <http://usa.wfp.org/> , an organization near and dear to both Mary’s heart and my own.
