Gift Ideas for Cyclists
Just a few shopping days remain this holiday season - a fact of which you are probably
keenly aware if you've procrastinated on your gift buying. Luckily, CycleLife's
got you covered with great options for many of the people on your list (yourself
included). We asked our staff for their top picks this season. Here's what they're
hoping that Santa brings for them:

1. Defeet gloves. (See Matt's Five Essentials below.)
2. Subscription to Rouleur. This magazine, published eight times a year, is commonly
regarded as the premier publication for road racing reportage. The high quality
photography and writing appeal to those who are truly passionate about the sport
and set the publication apart from other cycling magazines.
3. Warm, woolly socks for cold winter rides. Several members of the team can't say
enough about how much they love their Assos Fugu socks. If you haven't tried them
out yet, we highly recommend that you give them a shot.
4. Bike cleaning supplies. With all our the wet weather lately, many bikes are probably
looking a little muddy these days. Pick up bike-specific cleaning supplies for a
DIY wash that will have a bike looking good as new in no time.
5. CycleLife kits. Including our new, lightly fleece-lined, long sleeve jerseys,
which Steve reviews below.
6. Gift certificates. When all else fails and you're just not sure what to get.
You can't go wrong with gift cards.

New Long Sleeve Jerseys Hit CycleLife

A recent addition to the shop's stock of winter gear is a great long sleeve CycleLife
jersey. Here, Steve gives us his thoughts on this new item.

Of all the bike clothes hanging in my closet, the one style that has been missing
is the long sleeve jersey. My summer jerseys have long done double duty paired with
arm warmers as winter wear. So when a batch of long sleeved CycleLife USA jerseys
showed up at the shop, I decided to give one a shot.

Now, if you've been on any of the Saturday morning shop rides in the last two months,
you've probably seen me (I'm the one with the Ned Flanders mustache). And if you've
seen me on a shop ride, you've seen me in my long sleeved shop jersey. Since getting
this jersey, I have become completely sold on long sleeved bike wear. I've even
taken it a little bit too far, maybe wearing the jersey for an extra ride or two
between washes.

Made by Squadra (the same company that makes our summer kits), the jersey features
a light fleece lining, full collar, and full zip. I've found it to be perfect for
late fall/early winter rides, or paired with a wool base layer and vest or shell
for cold morning spins.

And possibly best of all, it features the CycleLife logo, along with the DC flag
on the collar (in CycleLife colors, naturally), so you can represent the city and
shop we all love.

Matt's Five Essentials
What are your five cycling essentials - the five things you couldn't (or wouldn't
want to) do without? CycleLife Mechanic Matt recently shared his with us:

1. Garmin K-Edge handlebar mount. With this mount, my GPS is easier to view and
I'm confident that it won't go flying off if I hit a bump.
2. Defeet wool gloves. Mornings are frosty this time of year, but fingers stay warm
with these awesome gloves!
3. Scarf. To keep it looking classy on chilly winter rides.
4. Kask Vertigo helmet
5. Nutella sandwiches. For a tasty snack that's a great alternative to peanut butter.

We had a great ride on Saturday, December 1st, with special guest Kristian House
from Rapha Condor-Sharp. About 30 riders turned out, making this one of our biggest
rides of the fall. Thanks to everyone who came out and joined us.
