When the Truman Project was founded, we set out to combine strong national security and foreign policy with effective politics – to change the debate about America’s role in the world in the 21st-century. Today we take a significant step towards making that vision a reality.

The Truman National Security Project is proud to announce a groundbreaking new partnership with the Center for National Policy.

This partnership combines values-based national security policy and politics into a single organization that will help define what American leadership means in a changing world. And while each group will retain its name, we’re combining staff and operations to bring these two organizations together.

CNP brings policy heft and a long heritage. A leading policy voice for over 30 years, their past leaders include Madeleine Albright, Tim Roemer, Cyrus Vance, Edmund Muskie, and Leon Panetta. And the Truman Project houses the largest national security and foreign policy leadership development program in the country in addition to our media and advocacy work.

Together, Truman and CNP create a preeminent national security organization with policy depth and the tools to turn forward-looking ideas into reality.

No other organization has access to hundreds of policy practitioners and political professionals, thousands of citizen advocates, policy creation, and state of the art communications expertise. But more importantly, our 21st-century approach to security policy is driven by values, setting us apart both from more academic organizations and less forward-leaning ones as well.

The Truman Project and CNP together fill a unique role in the 21st-century national security and foreign policy community. We think a strong voice is needed to help define American leadership in a changing world and we are filling that critical gap in an increasingly mature network of organizations and advocates.

This will mean new growth, new ideas, and much more – and we will keep you updated as we make those announcements. In the meantime, we are excited to share this news and look forward to growing the team.
