President Trump plans to tap Treasury Department official David Malpass as the U.S. pick to lead the World Bank, a clear sign the administration wants to rein in the international financial institution.

The administration plans to announce its pick Wednesday, a senior official said, just before a formal nomination period opens. Malpass, Treasury's undersecretary for international affairs, would still need approval by the bank's member nations in what is expected to become a contentious contest.
