Monthly Newsletter from JVC Northwest with news, updates, resources, & job opportunities. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Davis, on Tuesday July 11, 2017. Bill served as our second Executive Director in the 1970s and under his leadership Jesuit Volunteer communities expanded to urban placements in major cities in the Northwest and beyond. We are grateful for his many years of leadership and support of JVC Northwest. There will be a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Malibu on July 22, 2017 at 11 am in Malibu, Calif. Crossroads Call for Submissions Send in your FJV Updates! Have you had a life change recently? Share what's happening in your life by submitting an update to Crossroads! We are preparing for the Fall 2017 edition of our biannual newsletter, Focus, and we’re asking former JVs to send in their news for Crossroads, the alumni updates section of the newsletter! This info can include weddings, births, adoptions, awards, promotions, milestones, community reunions, etc. Send in your 2-3 sentence update, including a picture if available, to Alumni Coordinator, Sarah by August 14, 2017. Support People Needed for '17-18 JV Communities Walk with JV Communities in Montana The JV Program is looking for Support People! We are in need of formal support people for our JV Communities in Montana in Ashland, Hays, and St. Xavier. Support people provide an ongoing local contact for JV communities during the year. Because they are familiar with the area, support people help JVs become acquainted with the people, places, and ways of the area. Support people are a key part to the JV year! In addition, support people are in contact with the Program Coordinator during area visits, and throughout the program year as needed. If you are interested or have questions about this role contact Program Coordinator Sarah McKay. Solidarity on Tap July 30, 7 pm, Ignatian Spiritual Life Center, San Francisco, Calif. Join JVC Northwest, Ignatian Solidarity Network, and Jesuit Volunteer Corps (based in Baltimore) for Solidarity on Tap this summer in San Francisco! Want to bring Solidarity on Tap to your city? Contact Alumni Coordinator, Sarah. Celebrate St. Ignatius Feast Day with Jesuits West July 31, 6 pm, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, San Diego, Calif. Celebrate St. Ignatius Day with the Jesuit Community of San Diego and the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe during a Mass, followed by a dinner and special program. Join in celebrating the launch of a new Jesuit Province in the United States, Jesuits West. Created by the combining of the Oregon and California Provinces, the new province will reach from the Arctic Circle to the Mexican border. The celebration will also recognize the Jesuit contribution to 100 years of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, and the inauguration of the new Center for Ignatian Spirituality at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, a Center that will promote Ignatian spirituality and spiritual direction training in the San Diego area. JVC Northwest is excited to be re-opening a JV Community in Bend, OR this fall! As a result, we are seeking donations of household items as we prepare to welcome a new community of JVs! Be part of the new JV-FJV Mentor Program We are currently seeking FJVs interested in being part of the first cohort of Mentors who will mentor incoming Jesuit Volunteers (August 2017 - July 2018). This new program will provide the opportunity for FJVs to develop a mentor relationship with a current JV, learn about their JV experiences, support the JVC Northwest commitment to equity and inclusion, and role model mentoring to the JV for their personal and professional life. JV EnCorps accepting applications for 2017-18! Apply today to be a JV EnCorps Member JV EnCorps convenes and supports volunteers 50 and older in part- time, meaningful service positions where they have a direct impact on people living on the margins. JV EnCorps members gather monthly from September-June to explore the four core values of community, social and ecological justice, simple living, and spirituality. There are JV EnCorps communities in Seattle, Spokane, and Tacoma, Wash., as well as Portland and Bend, Ore. The application deadline for the 2017-18 year is August 15th. Banquet & Missioning Liturgy Friday, August 11, 6 pm, Camp Adams, Molalla, Ore. Help us bless and send forth the '17-18 Jesuit Volunteers at the Banquet & Missioning Liturgy on Friday August 11th, starting at 6 pm. FJVs, Board Members, Staff, and Support People from our communities gather for a celebratory dinner followed by a Missioning Liturgy. There will be limited lodging available (priority for elders and differently-abled), along with room to camp in the meadow. RSVP here or contact Alumni Coordinator, Sarah Jones, with questions. Submit Letters for Incoming JVs We are beginning to collect letters from FJVs to give to the incoming JVs at the Orientation Banquet on Friday, August 11. These letters are a tradition started several years ago and offer words of wisdom, advice, stories, or support for the new JVs as they prepare to enter their service locales. Letters can be short, long, specific to one community, or generalized for any incoming JV. Letters to a specific JV are also accepted. We're looking for 2-3 photographers who can help photograph JV communities during the week of Orientation (12-2pm on Aug 10th, Molalla, Ore.). We'd ideally love to have volunteers with some photography experience who can bring their own camera. Would you or anyone you know be interested in sharing photography skills? Events, Resources, & Reflections Jesuits West Celebrations The Oregon and California Provinces have been in a multi-year process to merge into a new, larger Province called "Jesuits West." This new Province stretches from the Arctic Circle to the US/Mexico Border. In celebration, many local communities and parishes are hosting events to honor Jesuits West in the coming year. Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center Retreats Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center, on the shoreline of Trout Lake in Arbor Vitae, Wisc., has been a place of rest, leisure, renewal, prayer, rejuvenation, play, inspiration and peacefulness since 1992. Marywood is open to all interested people (lay, religious, clergy) of all denominations and religious beliefs for renewal and retreat. Catholic Volunteer Network Discernment Retreats Catholic Volunteer Network now hosts discernment retreats for current volunteers and alumni who are contemplating their next steps. Join CVN for a weekend retreat and enjoy the opportunity to get away from the busyness of life and join with others in the spirit of discernment. These retreats are made available free of charge thanks to the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. Travel stipends are also available.
