[Washington Senate Democratic Campaign]

After an unprecedented three special sessions, the Washington State Legislature failed to pass a capital budget. As elected leaders, we are given the privilege to represent our communities and our state, and work in their best interests.

With this in mind, I had hoped that we would end this legislative session on a high note and pass a capital budget that would fund safe water projects, classroom construction, mental health care facilities, and State Park maintenance. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Senate Republicans refused to negotiate. They provided only excuses instead of solutions to the issues their constituents will now have to face without a capital budget. From being on the floor, it was clear that Republicans in the state Senate will only continue to play political games — all at the expense of our state.

I have confidence that we will resolve these issues through Democratic leadership. By electing more Democrats to the state Senate, these sort of political games will cease to exist in the Washington State Legislature.
