The bipartisan leaders of the House Russia probe threatened to subpoena the White House Thursday for any recordings of meetings between President Donald Trump and former FBI Director James Comey.

In a letter to the White House, Reps. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said the White House failed to satisfactorily respond to their earlier demand to clarify whether any such tapes exist. Instead, the White House shared a Trump tweet in which the president said he had "no idea" whether any recordings exist.

"Today's letter from the Committee makes clear that should the White House not respond fully, the Committee will consider using compulsory process to ensure a satisfactory response," they wrote.
