Friends,

I've dedicated my life to serving my community, state, and country. And just as I've been proud to serve as a state legislator and county prosecutor, I've been proud to serve in the armed forces for 22 years.

Today, I want to let you know that I'll be leaving the campaign trail to serve once again, this time for a three-week exercise in Bulgaria with the United States Army Reserve starting on July 16.

While I'm away, I won't be able to take an active role in the campaign, but my team will continue to fight for everyday Iowans by organizing and participating in events, deploying volunteers, and reaching out to voters in every corner of the state.

But before I leave on July 16th, I want to make sure the campaign is on strong footing so I can pick up right where I left off when I return in August.

Over the next 11 days, I'll be spending a lot of time with family and wrapping up work before heading to Bulgaria.

But I'll also be spending time meeting with people like you all across the state, and working to ensure that this campaign is stronger than ever when I return.

Since I won't be able to ask while I'm serving overseas, I want to ask now:
