To whom it may concern at Vice President Biden's office, as a proud Delawarean transplanted many years ago to Ann Arbor, I was thrilled to learn Joe would be stopping here on his book tour. Given that Michigan is a critical swing state :), I was hoping that he might consider adding another talk before the 7:30 book event. I have two to propose. In part as a personal tribute to Beau, a friend from high school, I joined the board of SafeHouse Center https://www.safehousecenter.org/ which seeks to prevent sexual assault and domestic violence. Though then-Senator Biden is a hero to us for introducing the Violence Against Women Act in the 90's, I realize this topic is not the main thrust of his book. But perhaps he would consider speaking at a fundraiser event for us. Given the current, ahem, political climate, and the fact that we receive half of our funding from the federal government, we can use all the funds that we can raise. A second option could be to do a "Policy Talk" at the University of Michigan's Ford School of Public Policy, perhaps on healthcare/cancer research. Recent Policy Talk speakers include Thomas Perez, Janet Napolitano, Janet Yellen, and Ben Bernanke. The Ford School is right in the middle of a transition to a new dean who starts next month, but he is someone you may know, Michael S. Barr, whom President Obama named to the Department of Treasury where he worked on the Dodd-Frank legislation.
