Feierstein was sworn in on September 17, 2010, as Ambassador of the United States to Yemen. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. Prior to his post in Pakistan, Ambassador Feierstein served as Principal Deputy Assistant Coordinator and Deputy Assistant Coordinator for Programs in the Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism from 2006 to 2008. Ambassador Feierstein has served overseas in eight postings: Beirut, Lebanon from 2003 to 2004; Jerusalem, Israel from 1998 to 2001; Muscat, Oman from 1995 to 1998; Peshawar, Pakistan from 1989 to 1992; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 1985 to 1987; Tunis, Tunisia from 1983 to 1985; and Islamabad, Pakistan from 1976 to 1978. At the U.S. Department of State, he has served as Desk Officer for Nepal, Pakistan and Egypt; Deputy Director in the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs; Director of the Office of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh Affairs; and Director of the Office of Regional Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. Ambassador Feierstein holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Point Park College and a Master of Arts in International Relations from Duquesne University.
