just celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the October Annual Meeting. Now, the Partnership
has something else to celebrate this year.
Last month, the Arlington County Board unanimously approved the establishment of
the Ballston Business Improvement District (BID) effective January 1, 2011.
The BID will ensure that Ballston will be competitive, attractive and sustainable
in an increasingly competitive commercial real estate environment.

The Ballston BID's primary focus will be to move the perception of Ballston from
a "good place" to a "great place." Activities will include marketing, branding
and promotion, community events, minor physical enhancements such as banners and
wayfinding and beautification and transportation enhancements including bike racks,
shelters and more.
The Ballston BID includes 119 commercial properties, approximately 8.3 million square
feet of development, and more than 118 acres.

Save The Arlington Planetarium!
Support the Fundraising Efforts
In February 2010, the Arlington School Board announced, due to budget pressures,
that Arlington's planetarium (on Quincy Street adjacent to Washington and Lee High
School) would be closed at the end of the school year. So, some Arlington citizens
formed the "Friends of the David M. Brown Planetarium." They are working to meet
the mandated, aggressive fundraising schedule; a total of $400,000 needed by the
end of June.
The effort to save the planetarium, and modernize the technology within it for
the benefit of children and the community, provides a great opportunity for a partnership
between education and the business community.
The planetarium serves up to 25,000 children each year from public and parochial
schools. These visits allow school children, regardless of previous exposure to
science, economic level or ethnicity, to share in this inspiring educational experience.
Companies who donate to this effort will have their names on plaques inside the
planetarium to serve as a constant reminder of their dedication to our children's
education.

Capital Bikeshare Expansion Planned in New Year
District & Arlington Anticipate Adding Stations in 2011
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that it has secured
funding to expand the Capital Bikeshare system in 2011, adding 20 new stations
and 200 additional bikes in the District. Best of all, Arlington also plans to
add new stations next year! The joint expansion will boost the size of the nation's
first regional bikesharing network by nearly a third, before the system has completed
its first full year of operation.
Arlington County currently has 14 Capital Bikeshare stations in the areas of Crystal
City, Pentagon City and Potomac Yard, and in 2011 plans to expand the system to
the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor.
