Hu says Biden will visit China this year

WASHINGTON - US Vice-president Joe Biden will visit China this year, Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Wednesday during an official lunch at the State Department as part of his own US tour.

'To sustain the momentum of high level interactions, the two sides have agreed that Vice-president Biden would pay a visit to China this year,' Mr Hu said on the second day of his US visit.

Mr Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hosted Mr Hu for the luncheon after his press conference with President Barack Obama at the White House.

Several former top US diplomats attended the meal, including Mr Henry Kissinger, own of the major architects of the US dialogue with communist China in the early 1970s. -- AFP
