Biographical Information

Stephen Simpson is the newly-assigned Economic and Commercial Officer for the U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team in Basrah, Iraq. In this capacity he will be responsible for advancing U.S. economic and commercial interests in Basrah. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Simpson was Director for the Middle East and North Africa in the Bilateral and Regional Affairs Directorate of the Office of the Coordinator for Communications and Information Policy at the U.S. Department of State. He previously attended the National Foreign Affairs Training Center's Economic Studies program and served his associated practicum in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy. He has also served as Special Assistant in the Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism. Mr. Simpson's overseas assignments include Economic Officer in Manama, Bahrain; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Consular Officer in Bogotá, Colombia. He is the recipient of multiple service decorations, including Meritorious and Superior Honor Awards.
