Query of the Week
How can we stand up for our friends without making enemies?Notes from Sally
Assembly: Program presented by the 5th grade chorus and the 5/6 orchestra
Parents of 8th graders: There will be an important meeting about the Upper School curriculum and the course registration process at 7:30 PM on Tuesday night, February 8th in the Middle School Drama Studio. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. Since the Conversations with Sally was scheduled for the following morning, that date has been changed and that event will now take place at 7:45 AM on Wednesday morning, February 16th. Also, now that the academic calendar is available for the 2011-12 school year, remember that Upper School team sports will begin in late August, a couple of weeks before the start of school. Please take this into account when you are making your vacation plans.
Conversations with Sally will take place for all grades on Wednesday mornings in February and early March, beginning with 5th grade on February 9th. Watch the Tuesday Letter for your class gathering.
A reminder to parents: if you need to get a message to your child about a change of plans for the end of the day, please contact the office or the homeroom teacher/advisor as early as possible. Messages that come in late in the day may not be picked up in time to get the information to your child.
Save the date cards were sent out last week to announce Middle School Grandparents Day, which will be held on May 6th. All participants must be registered in advance, so be on the lookout for more information, or email grandparentsday@sidwell.edu with questions.
Congratulations to our grade-level winners of the National Geographic Geography Bee! 5th grade: Brett Bolog, 6th grade Sam Henry Lazarus, 7th grade Robel Selassie, 8th grade Gigi Stark. The Middle School final competition will be held on Wednesday. Good luck to all!Instrumental Music Notes

The Apprenticeship Program offers students, Grades 5-8, the unique opportunity to work with professionals in different organizations and settings of their choice. These learning experiences might be as diverse as helping out in a bakery or shadowing a Supreme Court Justice. The idea is to design your own program in an area that interests you. Under this program, students contact a mentoring adult or organization directly and organize their own 4-day experience (from March 14th through March 17th) under the guidance of a specific supervisor.
