Dear Kathleen and Hunter, On this special day, Beau and I want to thank everyone who has served our country. We also ask that you keep in mind the families and loved ones who make sacrifices of their own - especially when a soldier is deployed. Last weekend I had the great honor of pinning Beau's new insignia on his uniform as he was promoted to the rank of major. [http://action.beaubiden.com/111111] As I looked around the room at the families of the other service members, I was reminded of the duty shouldered by everyone else in the service member's life. Beau has often said that deployment is most difficult for the families. A deployed soldier is there to do a job, while back home the rest of the family must make it through a year without a father or mother, sister or brother. That shared sacrifice is what we ask you to remember today. In the past, many of you asked me what you can do to show your support for a veteran, deployed service member, or their families. Simple things like thank-you cards go a long way. Or, if you see a veteran or a soldier's family member, take a moment to say thank you. If you'd like to make a contribution, the USO is a wonderful organization. Thank you for your continued support; not just for my favorite veteran, but for everyone who makes a sacrifice for our nation.
