Donald Trump has won the Republican presidential primary in New York, according to the Associated Press.

Trump was widely expected to carry his home state, but his allies are hoping he can secure nearly all 95 of its delegates to the Republican National Convention in July once all the votes are tallied.

If Trump wins a majority of votes statewide, he'll win every one of New York's 14 statewide delegates. And if he earns at least 50 percent of the vote in each congressional district, he can win the remaining 81 delegates.

Anti-Trump groups spent little in New York, where the Manhattan real estate mogul's lead was considered insurmountable. Trump's rivals, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, declined to contest the state broadly and instead made targeted pitches to small pockets of conservative voters, such as Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn.

In exit polls, however, just one in five Republican voters identified themselves as conservative. White evangelicals, a key voting bloc for Cruz, made up only a quarter of the GOP electorate.
