Happy Friday! 200 days to Election Day, Nov. 8. It's Earth Day. Passover begins at sunset.

CAUGHT ON TAPE -- "Trump team tells GOP he has been 'projecting an image,'" by AP's Steve Peoples and Tom Beaumont in Hollywood, Fla.: "Trump's chief lieutenants ... told skeptical Republican leaders Thursday that ... 'the part that he's been playing is now evolving' ... Trump's newly hired senior aide, Paul Manafort, [said in a closed-door meeting]: 'When he's out on the stage, when he's talking about the kinds of things he's talking about on the stump, he's projecting an image that's for that purpose ... You'll start to see more depth of the person, the real person. You'll see a real different guy.'" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ac1089fde51791b06771de75cee1d5dc8b106cabb174ac279fc00b94b512f745

JUST POSTED - "GOP rivals humble themselves before the party's elite: Cruz, Kasich and Trump team makes pitches as delegates dangle their support," by Shane Goldmacher in Hollywood, Fla: "The three-day, beachside [RNC] meeting has amounted to a dry run of the kind of aggressive delegate hunting that would define an open convention this summer in Cleveland - and it saw some sharp elbows thrown between the Cruz and Kasich teams. ... Asked about Kasich, Cruz's campaign manager trolled best: 'Who?' said Jeff Roe.

"The sniping reflects the stakes: the RNC members gathered here in Hollywood are not just a bloc of convention delegates but party leaders who could sway hundreds of other delegates at a contested Republican convention. ... 'It's the largest gathering of delegates anywhere in America before Cleveland,' said Ken Cuccinnelli, a top Cruz delegate adviser. ...

"And so the charm offensive began early and often, from the breakfast buffet, where Trump's top operatives gathered Thursday morning around a corner table, to late at night at the hotel bar. In between, there were hallway tete-a-tetes, chats over cigars on a party-sponsored yacht." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ac1089fde51791b031435ca4554c29bd3bef621e347c468e2626c1b62071012c

--"Delegates face death threats from Trump supporters," by Eli Stokols and Kyle Cheney: "Since Donald Trump came up empty in his quest for delegates at the Republican state assembly in Colorado Springs nearly two weeks ago ... [t]he mild-mannered [state GOP] chairman [Steve House] estimates he's gotten between 4,000 and 5,000 calls on his cell phone. ... One party chair says a Trump supporter recently got in his face and promised 'bloodshed' if he didn't win the GOP nomination. An Indiana delegate who criticized Trump received a note warning against 'traditional burial' that ended with, 'We are watching you.'" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ac1089fde51791b02bb866698b1ff2c5dac0e75745c83423ec646f37ab54ab7b

NICK BILTON, author of "Hatching Twitter," first piece for Vanity Fair after moving from N.Y. Times, "Valley Politics: How Silicon Valley Created Donald Trump -- And can they stop him?": "Trump has threatened to cut off the H-1B visa immigration program, which would impair Facebook's and Google's ability to hire brilliant new programmers from overseas. ... The only thing that's really changed between Trump's other attempts to run for office and now is the advent of social media. And Trump, who has spent his life offending people, knows exactly how to bend it to his will." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ac1089fde51791b05e1961f93c0a339420ea817e50f8b8e9414181e2238c6495

TOP TWEETS: @ZekeJMiller: "I asked Cruz about appearing in the den of the Washington Cartel, he says the RNC is 'the heart of the grassroots" ... @seanspicer: "RNC Rules Committee adjourns. No changes/recommendations. #rncspringmeeting."

VEEPSTAKES - WashPost p. A1, top of col. 1, "GOP camps game out picks for No. 2 slot: Possibility of a contested convention complicates vice-presidential calculus," by Bob Costa and Phil Rucker in Hollywood, Fla.: Cruz and Kasich has both begun vetting, "leaving open the possibility of announcing running mates as early as June, when primary voting concludes, or waiting until July at the Republican National Convention. ... Trump said ... his campaign is holding off on vetting candidates until the nomination battle is over. 'I would not choose a vice president unless I know I have won,' Trump said in a recent interview. ...

"Cruz campaign manager Jeff Roe said Cruz instructed his top aides to begin a vetting process this spring. ... Paul Manafort, Trump's newly empowered top strategist, [said:] 'The other two campaigns have to [start the vetting process] because they're not relevant ... They have to do things that will make people assume they'll be the nominee. We're doing things that will make us the nominee.' ...

"Some Cruz allies already are suggesting names, with one mentioning female senators such as Joni Ernst of Iowa and Deb Fischer of Nebraska. ... If ... Trump inches towards the 1,237-delegate threshold in June, Cruz could select a running mate to attempt to alter the psychology of the race. ... Kasich [began] a vetting process about two weeks ago ... One challenge for Kasich ... is persuading people to submit to a full vet given the long odds he faces ...

"Two people likely to be on Kasich's short list are ... Rubio ... and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker ... For Trump, the most appealing choices may be Rubio or Kasich because they bring delegates." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ac1089fde51791b0033368923fa9cf0a4361668948652a5fb15a924957d09ab2

Party Delays Spending in Some Contested States," by Jonathan Martin in Hollywood, Fla.: "[U]nease about Mr. Trump, along with the dislike many of the party's business-oriented donors have for the hard-line Mr. Cruz, has prompted the R.N.C. to begin privately assuring donors that it will create a so-called Senate Trust fund ... including hiring field operatives and opposition researchers ...

OUT AND ABOUT -- Democratic data firm TargetSmart Communications celebrated its 10th anniversary last night. The happy hour at the rooftop of Charlie Palmer Steak included staff, clients, and longtime confidantes. Highlight was a champagne toast backed up by a highlight video of TargetSmart's history and their recent coverage by MSNBC. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ac1089fde51791b09c3ce238077729bc4517871381c035a16516f70d8f8b9a2d

** A message from PhRMA: A new report from IMS Health demonstrates how a competitive biopharmaceutical marketplace is working to control costs. The report found that net prices for brand medicines increased just 2.8 percent in 2015, down from 5.1 percent the prior year, as discounts and rebates negotiated by payers continue to rise sharply. The report also projects medicine spending growth will continue to moderate to 4 to 7 percent through 2020, in line with overall health care cost growth. Unfortunately, patients are not always benefiting from the discounts that insurance companies negotiate. A new report from Kaiser Family Foundation found that insurers are increasing patients'
out-of-pocket costs, including coinsurance and deductibles, more than they are paying in medical benefits - underscoring the need for policy solutions that empower and engage patients. Read more here. **
