The Penn State abuse scandal has raised countless questions but one that is beginning to gain broader attention is exactly who will prosecute the case? Attorney General Linda Kelly (R), who was appointed by Governor Corbett earlier this year, has already declared she will not seek election in November 2012, but the case is expected to take more than one year to reach trial. This means the election will attract intense media attention next year since the new Attorney General will be in charge of actually prosecuting the case. Democratic candidates [3]Patrick Murphy and [4]Kathleen Kane have already spoken this grave responsibility, Former Congressman Patrick Murphy announced last Thursday his intention to launch a Pennsylvania new sex-crimes database to enhance communication between linking law enforcement officials across the Commonwealth. On Chris Matthews’ _Hardball_ Kathleen Kane explained her plans to create stricter laws on reporting abuse in order to protect victims. In the News [5]Sources: Attorney General Paula Dow to step down; interested in being a judge _The Star Ledger _– By Statehouse Bureau Staff, November 11, 2011 There’s a shakeup brewing at the highest levels of Gov. Chris Christie’s administration. State Attorney General Paula Dow is expected to step down by the end of the year, according to two people with knowledge of her plans. Talk of Dow’s imminent departure has circulated for months, and she has expressed interest in becoming a judge. Speculation on her replacement has focused on Jeff Chiesa, Christie’s chief counsel who was a colleague in the U.S. Attorney’s office, several sources said. A new poll by Moore Information, a Portland-based firm that polls for Republicans, shows the race dead even with a big block of undecided voters. Democrat Ferguson had 25 percent, Republican Dunn was at 24 percent, and a whopping 44 percent of respondents were undecided. Attorney general candidate Patrick Murphy said in an interview that better information-sharing between law-enforcement agencies could have expedited charges against former Pennsylvania State University football coach Jerry Sandusky, who was indicted early this month on allegations that he sexually abused eight boys over a period of many years.
