Biographical Information

Patricia M. Haslach became the Iraq Transition Coordinator in the Office of the Deputy Secretary for Management & Resources in March 2011. She previously served as Deputy Coordinator for Diplomacy at Feed the Future beginning in May 2010. Prior to this role, she served as Assistant Chief of Mission for Assistance Transition at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq from 2009 to 2010.

Ambassador Haslach served as U.S. Ambassador to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) from 2007 to 2009. She also headed the Friends of the Chair Group for Food Security. Prior to this position, she was U.S. Ambassador to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic from 2004 to 2007. She served as Director, Office of Afghanistan from 2002 to 2004, where she was responsible for overseeing a multi-billion-dollar reconstruction program for Afghanistan. Previous posts include Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan; Agricultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India; Political Officer at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium; and Resource Officer at the U.S. Embassies in Lagos, Nigeria and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Ambassador Haslach was awarded the Director General’s Award for Impact and Originality in Reporting in 2002. She was also awarded the Herbert Salzman Award for Excellence in International Economic Performance in 1999 and the Sinclaire Award for the study of a hard language in 1997. Ambassador Haslach earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Gonzaga University in 1978 and a Master of International Affairs and a Certificate on Western Europe from Columbia University in 1981. Her languages include French, Italian, and Indonesian.
