On November 15 and 16, BPC returned to New Orleans for its Third Annual Political Summit. Co-hosts James Carville and Mary Matalin highlighted a cast of newsmakers and politicos, including John Avlon, Stan Greenberg, Karen Hughes, Walter Isaacson, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Melissa Harris-Perry, Richard Wolffe, and BPC Senior Fellows Senators Bob Bennett, Trent Lott and Secretary Dan Glickman.

Far beyond the Beltway, BPC's summit, Taking the Poison out of Partisanship, brought together Washington's top names in politics, news and entertainment for a conversation on the year that was-what worked, what did not and where the two parties may find common ground going forward.

On November 9, John Rowe, Chairman and CEO of Exelon and a
member of BPC's Board of Directors, kicked off a new BPC speaker series
"On Leadership." His remarks, peppered with references to history and
literature, reflected on his 28-year career in the electric power sector. Rowe,
who plans to retire in early 2012, shared his insights on leading a Fortune 200
company through a time of economic and regulatory uncertainty. He also
discussed Exelon 2020, the company's strategic plan to dramatically lower
carbon and other emissions by the year 2020.

In the weeks before the super committee's deadline on the eve of Thanksgiving, BPC's Debt Reduction Task Force, led by Senator Pete Domenici and Dr. Alice Rivlin, put forth a package to spur economic growth, stabilize the debt, protect and restructure major entitlement programs and implement pro-growth tax reform. "We are profoundly disappointed by the Joint Select Committee's failure to reach a bipartisan agreement," said Senator Domenici and Dr. Rivlin in a press release. "The Committee had many ideas, policy options and solutions available to it..." but left "the largest drivers of our debt...unchanged."

BPC's Task Force will continue to advocate for a grand bargain to reassure the American public, the markets and the world that our political process can still function when we need it most.
