This may be the first Hot Chocolate 15/5K in Washington DC, but it's not our first Hot Chocolate 15/5K. With that in mind we wanted to share a few tips with you to help insure that your race day experience is the best possible. 1. It's December, it's going to be cold. We have over 20,000 thousand runners signed up, so it's going to take a while to get all of you across that starting mat. Dress in layers, we recommend some older stuff that you can shed at the race start. Not only will this keep you warm before the race, but all of the clothes that you discard will be donated to [8]Back On My Feet DC and [9]Gifts for the Homeless which will be used for years to come by people who really need them. 2. Parking is always an issue in DC, Saturday isn't going to be any different. We have several plans to make parking as streamlined as possible, but plan ahead. Give yourself extra time to get to the parking lot, park your car, and make your way to the race start. By factoring in extra time, it will cut down in congestion, get the race off on time and get you to the chocolate quicker. 3. it's easy to plow through the expo. however take a minute to check out the corral start times and assignments and then ask us questions if you have them, that's what we are here for. A few extra minutes familiarizing yourself with the logistics of the race start will help you get you to the right spot on race day. 4. Go Green and carpool. We have a great running community in the DC area and 20,000 of "your closest friends" running along with you on Saturday, by carpooling, it will cut down on congestion and get you a better parking assignment. If you are planning on parking at Rosecroft Raceway or National Harbor, you are going to need to have two runners together to get in, so save the hassle, grab a buddy or three and come on down. 5. Your gear check bag is the bag your bib number and race jacket will come in, hold onto that puppy! The night before the take the gear check tag off your bib, attach it to the gear check bag, then in the morning you will be ready to go. This will keep the gear check lines moving quickly and get you to the starting line faster. Just like any good race plan, the more you prepare the better day you are going to have, we hope these help. See you at the Starting Line!
