DRIVING THE DAY - ROMNEY SICKS SUNUNU ON GINGRICH:A source in Boston tells Score that John Sununu will emerge as THE lead Gingrich attack dog for the Romney campaign. At 9 a.m. ET, he and former Missouri Sen. Jim Talent will hold a press conference call "to discuss Newt Gingrich's record."Sununu developed a bit of a reputation for going negative as George H.W. Bush's Chief of Staff, and he is the elder statesman of elder statesmen in New Hampshire (where he served as governor and Republican state chair). Check out this Time Magazine cover from 1990:

SNEAK PEEKS - TWO BATCHES OF ROMNEY ENDORSEMENTS: Ten additionalNEW HAMPSHIREState Representatives will endorse Romney today. He will now have the support of 58 New Hampshire State Representatives, 9 State Senators, 4 out of 5 Executive Councilors and 7 out of 10 Sheriffs. Romney will also announce today the support of formerTENNESSEE Gov. Winfield Dunn and a group of 13 top Tennessee legislators, led by Romney's Legislative Co-Chairs, State Representatives Barrett Rich from West Tennessee and Ryan Haynes from East Tennessee. Coming from a non-early state, these showcase Romney's national campaign.
EXCLUSIVE - PAUL FIRES BACK AT REPUBLICAN JEWISH COALITION:Ron Paul was the only presidential candidate excluded from yesterday's day-long Republican Jewish Coalition forum. They said he's not sufficiently supportive of Israel. The Texas congressman's campaign puts their best surrogate - Ron Paul - in front of a camera for a seven-minute sit-down with author Jack Hunter to explain his position on Israel in the context of his larger view on the place of the United States in the world. Paul notes his service on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Watch:

RJC WRAP-UP - THE REST OF THE FIELD TAKES A HARD LINE ON IRAN: Ben Smith and I covered yesterday's RJC event, and we were struck by the specificity that some of the candidates took when it came to Iran. Our story: "Newt Gingrich has only been president for two hours, but he's already roiling the Middle East: He will - in those first two hours, he promised Wednesday - order the U.S. Embassy in Israel moved to Jerusalem. Secretary of State John Bolton will handle the details...On the hardest-line end, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum virtually promised military strikes on Iran. Iran's nuclear push 'increasingly leaves only two options: a military strike or a
nuclear Iran,' Perry said, indicating his preference for the former."

7-POINT PLAN - FIRST LOOK AT HUNTSMAN'S "RESTORING TRUST" SPEECH:In his National Press Club address today, Jon Huntsman will offer a 7-point plan for ending our two deficits: the economic deficit and the trust deficit. It will include ending crony capitalism and bailouts once and for with fundamental government reform that includes term limits and lobbying reform. "He will also directly and plainly lay out why Americans have lost trust in President Obama and why they cannot trust Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich to fix Washington," a campaign official emails. "The speech frames Gov. Huntsman as a consistent conservative who is willing to take on special interests and bring back a government
that is limited and equitable."
ADVANCE EXCERPTS - HUNTSMAN'S HIT ON ROMNEY AND GINGRICH TODAY: "The president came to office with a mandate to restore trust in Washington, yet his inexperience and failure to lead have left us worse off. He promised to change Washington, and then immediately succumbed to the partisanship, corporate handouts, bailouts, and spending that have made it so reviled. My opponents offer no better. Governor Romney will say anything to earn the voters trust. We are in this mess because there are already enough people in Washington who make a career out of telling people what they want to hear. Newt Gingrich is a product of that same Washington, who participated in the excesses of our broken and
polarized political system. You may not agree with me on every single issue. But you'll always know exactly where I stand, and I will never waver from my conservative convictions." Read 500 words from the speech here:

** As Bachmann lashes out a mom for using her daughter in a publicity stunt, Perry accuses Obama of declaring a war on religion and George Allen calls Kaine "chairman" instead of governor, here's POLITICO's Morning Score: your daily guide to the permanent campaign.
GINGRICH FUNDRAISING - $4 MILLION IN FIRST HALF OF Q4:The Gingrich campaign told the Los Angeles Times' Kim Geiger yesterday that they have raised $4 million in the first half of the fourth quarter. "That's about $1 million more than Gingrich raised in the first five months of the campaign, when he fell nearly $1.2 million in debt, including $450,000 owed to a private jet company," Kim writes with Kathleen Hennessey. "The third quarter was by far Gingrich's worst: He raised just $800,000 and lost more than a dozen staffers who quit en masse in June. 'There were days in August when we raised $10,000 overnight and we'd be very excited about it,' Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond said in an
interview Wednesday. 'Now we see $10,000 an hour.' Still, the campaign will carry some debt into the new year, Hammond said."

ROMNEY NEW AD - EMPHASIS ON FAMILY TURNS BATTLE PERSONAL: "Mr. Gingrich wasn't mentioned in a new Romney campaign video [out yesterday] or in Ann Romney's recent appearances on behalf of her husband. But the campaign makes clear it's trying to draw a contrast between the Romneys' 42-year union and Mr. Gingrich's three marriages. Mrs. Romney drew applause Tuesday at a Somersworth, N.H., diner when she described the couple as 'still sweethearts,' who live by the motto: 'No other success can compensate for failure in the home.'" DNC ATTACKS - DIAGNOSES ROMNEY WITH "MULTIPLE POLITICAL PERSONALITY DISORDER":The Democratic National Committee is releasing a new video called "Mitt Romney through the ages." A riff by MSNBC's Chuck Todd about how we've seen four different Romneys over the years offers the narration. DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse wonders where Madonna or Mitt has had more reinventions. "The problem for Mitt Romney is his latest reinvention is no more likely to be successful than the last, or the one before that, because it feeds the very problem his reinventions seem to be trying to solve: that with Mitt Romney, you never you know what you are going to get and you simply can't trust him to
lead," he writes. A memo out last night:

FIRST IN SCORE - ROMNEY CONFIRMS FOR CPAC:The American Conservative Union will announce today that Romney will be a featured speaker at CPAC, which runs Feb. 9-11. Both Romney and Gingrich are now set. Recall that Romney conceded to McCain at CPAC in 2008. He is NOT participating in the Newsmax debate moderated by Donald Trump, which ACU is cosponsoring.
POLLING -
QUINNIPIAC - GINGRICH UP IN FLORIDA, OHIO AND PENNSYLVANIA:Quinnipiac University just posted numbers from polling they did in the battlegrounds of the primary and the general. Gingrich now leads Romney 35 percent to 22 percent in Florida, 36 percent to 18 percent in Ohio and 31 percent to 17 percent in Pennsylvania. In all three states, a head-to-head contest between Gingrich and Romney - and no other candidates - puts the former House speaker above 50 percent of the vote," Alex Burns explains. "The poll also includes some general election data that may help Gingrich push back on the widely held perception that he would be much weaker than Romney against President Obama: Florida: Romney
with 45 percent to Obama's 42 percent; Obama at 46 percent to Gingrich's 44 percent. Ohio: Romney at 43 percent to Obama's 42 percent; Gingrich with 43 percent to Obama's 42 percent. Pennsylvania: Obama edging Romney 46 - 43 percent; Obama tops Gingrich 48 - 40 percent." The results:

CNN - GINGRICH LEADS IN 3 OF THE FIRST 4 STATES:"The CNN/Time/ORC International Polls, released Wednesday, indicate that strong support from the tea party movement is contributing to the former House speaker's surge among likely Republican primary voters and caucus-goers. But the poll also suggests that this race is far from over, with less than half the people questioned in each state saying their minds are made up," CNN deputy political director Paul Steinhauser writes.

IOWA TALKER - GRASSLEY PREDICTS 2-3 WINNERS: "The Iowa Caucus race remains wide open and more than one Republican presidential candidate will likely stake a claim to victory, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said" Wednesday, according to the Des Moines Register. "I think that you are going to have two or three winners out of Iowa. You will obviously have one on top, but I don't think there will be a wide difference between first, second and third place," Grassley told Iowa reporters on a telephone conference call. He also predicted that the race is fluid enough for others to get a look.

PALIN WON'T ENDORSE BEFORE IOWA - BACKS TRUMP DEBATE: Sarah Palin said candidates should attend the Donald Trump debate on December 27 during a hit on Fox yesterday. From Newsmax: "Palin said she would not be endorsing any candidate 'before Iowa' ... But the former governor...also told Fox Business Network that Gingrich has 'been a bit more successful' than Mitt Romney in courting party activists. 'He has been engaged in that movement most recently in order for them to hear his solutions and there's been some forgiveness then on the part of Tea Party Patriots for some of the things in Gingrich's past,' she said...Gingrich, she acknowledged, can't sell himself as an outsider. But she said
that during his time in Washington 'some of the things he's done have been good.' 'He helped balance the budget under Bill Clinton. That is what we need today,' she said."

SNEAK PEEK - NEW PEW STUDY HIGHLIGHTS BEST STATE WEB SITES:The Pew Center on the States' Election Initiatives is releasing a new report today that provides reviews and analysis of election websites for all 50 states and D.C. based on their content, lookup tools and usability. As voters increasingly turn to the Web for information, the group thinks it's important for states to provide election sites that are both informative and easy to navigate. The assessments were conducted in the months leading up to the 2010 election and states received overall scores out of 100-which are viewable on an interactive map. Ten states received top scores.

CALENDAR TALKER - "NOT TOO LATE FOR ANOTHER CANDIDATE" TO RUN:Rhodes Cook writes a piece for Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball blog today that notes how many delegates get awarded later in the process and that the filing deadlines for many of the later contests (such as delegate-rich California) don't come until March. Plus, the early contests are NOT winner-take-all (that doesn't start until April 1). In other words, there's not much stopping an extremely late entrant into the primary field in February after the early contests - perhaps an anti-Newt, perhaps an anti-Mitt. "The likelihood of the usual quick knockout is reduced, while the prospect of a long slog for delegates is enhanced," Cook
writes. "And who knows, the latter could feature a late-starting candidate or two, adding another unique twist to a Republican presidential nominating campaign that has already displayed considerable fluidity."

ILLINOIS TALKER - JOE WALSH ANNOUNCES WHERE HE'LL RUN TODAY: "Rep. Joe Walsh will announce plans for his political future on Thursday night at a Tea Party meeting in Chicago," per the Chicago Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet. "Monday came and went with no word from Walsh over whether he would he make a 2012 re-election bid from the new 14th district, which he had announced he was going to do--thrusting him in a GOP primary with Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.) or run from the new 8th district, a move he has been exploring. The 8th, drawn in the new map to be a Democratic district, has no well-known Republican running. Democrats Raja Krishnamoorthi and Tammy Duckworth are locked in an 8th district
Democratic primary battle." Hultgren has been rolling out local 14th district endorsements since Monday:

OREGON HOUSE - DCCC RUNNING ADS IN SPECIAL SIGNALS CONCERN: "The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is set to launch a TV ad campaign in the Oregon special election, a sign that the party is nervous about its prospects in next month's contest," Alex Isenstadt reports. "The DCCC will begin airing ads in the Portland-area district on Thursday, with the buy extending through Dec. 12. Party officials declined to detail how much they were investing in the race between Democrat Suzanne Bonamici and Republican Rob Cornilles."

VIRGINIA SENATE - FIRST DEBATE BETWEEN ALLEN, KAINE PREVIEWS YEAR AHEAD: "In the first few minutes of the debate hosted by the Associated Press at the state Capitol, Allen (a former senator and governor) essentially painted Kaine (a former governor who served most recently as chairman of the Democratic National Committee) as a President Obama proxy while Kaine labeled his opponent a Washington politician who supported George W. Bush's policies that led, Kaine said, to the recession," Caitlin Huey-Burns of Real Clear Politics reports from Richmond. "Allen referred to Kaine as 'Chairman' and Kaine termed Allen's Senate bid as a 're-election campaign.'"
