My comments on my first reading of the" Biden School of Public Policy” memo as presented by UD : it is not Biden centric. It is UD centric - highlighting as its priorities( among other things ): focus on smart cities energy and environmental policy w/ a focus on sustainability social policy w/ a focus on civil rights and social justice and related areas of criminology and disaster science and management w/ a focus on community impacts and preparedness. All well and good - but Not Biden priorities. Biden Center - focus on the Biden Pillars - in an interactive way w/ students and community at large. It is a platform , a museum, a gathering place on campus , and a destination. It is also a place to go for lunch w/ friends to see what drove JRB his entire life - politics is personal - and why it is important for every person to be engaged. It is place to convene - on campus and for outside groups for meetings, conferences, trainings, etc. JRB is not in charge - as in being responsible for the running of the place or for filling the seats so to speak. He is rather the vision, and it is the responsibility of his staff to execute his vision by communicating it to the general public, and taking appropriate actions to make it all work - "the Biden Way”.The Biden Center is not the college that awards a degree- it will not compete but rather colloborate w/ the School of PP to offer the information and the wisdom behind the policy. But , it can also be more - it can grow into its own Institute. The Biden Pillars: Equality Politics in democracy - esp. the democratic party principles and dialogue Protecting children - Beau Biden Foundation Military families and community colleges - Jill’ Foreign policy -( UP ) Cancer Moonshot - off campus Violence against women - continuing the fight on college campus’ - i. e. “He for She - and more Library
