Former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty Friday to one felony count of making a false statement to the FBI.

It's the latest step in the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russian meddling in the 2016 election that is closing in on President Donald Trump's close associates.

Trump's former national security adviser admitted to one count of lying to FBI agents about conversations he had with Russia's then-ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak, during the presidential transition period in late December 2016.
