Good evening BBF Board:


Happy Labor Day weekend!

Lots of rain here in Chesapeake City, Maryland to start the weekend, but that has not dampened my spirits.


Our partnership with Special Olympics —Operation Safeguard—will be announced in Boston on September 27th at the JFK Library, where Special Olympics Massachusetts is celebrating their 50th anniversary. We anticipate media coverage will air on September 28th. We have planned initial stages of the project, which we expect will be a 3 to 5 year timeframe, with work beginning in November. I anticipate that I will be speaking in early November at their annual international conference in Las Vegas. We will bring you more as the schedule fleshes out. Josh has done phenomenal work on this, and I am grateful for his tireless dedication to this project.


Also, a partnership that we have been working on for over a year has come to fruition. Yesterday I met again with the President of Discover Bank, Jim Roszkowski, and his CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) staff. Effective immediately, Discover Bank is requiring that any grantee of CRA funds that deals with children in any capacity complete the Beau Biden Foundation Shield of Protection Program. Discover Bank will fund each assessment, and concomitant training. Each assessment costs $3000.00; training varies by the number of people. Discover estimated yesterday that they have about 50 organizations that would participate initially. This is a seed that has sprouted and we anticipate will continue to grow.


Next week our new Communications Director, Dan Sanchez will start, as well as our new public ally. We anticipate more hires as we expand.
