As Kansas Attorney General for three years, it isn't unusual for Steve Six
to try to solve mysteries. In fact, Six talks about how much he likes to go
after what he calls the "scam artists and criminals that have been ripping
off Kansas consumers." He does this through two divisions of his office, the
Consumer Protection Unit and the Medicaid Fraud Unit. Both units seem to
have been wildly successful in accomplishing their missions. In 2010, nearly
$22 million has been recovered in Medicaid fraud, an all-time record. And
this year Six's Consumer Protection division has recovered over $17 million,
compared to less than $1 million in 2006 under then-Attorney General Phill
Kline. It requires a great deal of legwork.
