Good Morning and Happy December! I trust everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hard to believe its December. Just wanted to share with you the update we shared with the Biden Foundation and some good news. We hosted a great 5K on November 19th, as you can see below we raised some money, but what you cannot see is that we all had a great time, despite the nasty cold wind. We are setting up a few special Run for Child Protection events with the PAL centers of Delaware so we can bring more kids into the action and give away the rest of the great medals. I had a nice event with Gov. John Carney on Tuesday November 28th as he signed the Proclamation for Giving Tuesday. The Governor spent some time talking with me afterwards about BBF and Beau, and Gov. Carney was thrilled that he was recently gifted with some BBF golf balls from a wonderful board member! Thank you Fred. Our Giving Tuesday campaign appears to be a success- we raised about $13,000 (not all deposited yet- so not all included in WIR totals below. Our deposited funds for the past 2 weeks are: BBF 5k $17,702. Golf- $800 Grassroots $5584.53 Large gifts- $2500 Total Revenue $26,586.55 As of December 5, 2017 we have raised $836,000 which means we have exceeded budgeted projections. Thanks to Josh for staying on top of this, and to all of you for your help. Our programming has been busy as well. Between me, Josh, Claudine and Dominique we spoke to 1220 students and adults in either Stewards of Children or Internet Safety. Our Shield of Protection Initiative has also been successful— we are working with 4 child serving entities and will be gearing up to accept more as we enter 2018. We had a great start to our partnership with the Delaware Down Syndrome Association. We hosted a Stewards of Children presentation, led by Claudine, for 18 committed parents and grandparents! But my favorite part of Saturday morning- we hosted 13 adorable children in our makeshift nursery here at Delaware Law School, staffed by volunteers from Delaware State University. I had a great time with the little ones, and met with the student volunteers afterwards to talk with them about our mission and why we do what we do to protect children, particularly children with disabilities, and answer their questions about . Great experience for all of us. Financially made possible by a special grant from the Fusco Foundation and our wonderful friend Frank Vasallo. We proudly signed on to support the request to members of the US House of Representatives to protect young victims from sexual assault and support the Safe Sports Authorization Act. Also, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit denied the Defendants motion to block our sign on to the Amicus Brief in support of the child victims in the Matusiewicz case, and the brief was filed with our our name as an amici. I want to let you know that the law school closes the school buildings from 12/22/17 through 1/2/18. We will all be available, but will be working remotely that week. Have a great weekend!! On to December, 2018 and another successful month. Best— Patty Patricia Dailey Lewis, Esquire Executive Director Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children www.beaubidenfoundation.org <http://www.beaubidenfoundation.org/> patty@beaubidenfoundation.org <mailto:patty@beaubidennfoundation.org> “We have seen the progress that can be made when society commits to shining a bright light on a crime like domestic violence, and we are seeing the beginning of what can be accomplished if we continue shining that bright light on child abuse. As adults, we have a legal and moral obligation to stand up and speak out for children who are being abused. These children cannot speak for themselves.” —Beau Biden
