Alumni and their guests spent October 8-10 in New Haven, revisiting the halls and classrooms of the Sterling Law Building and reuniting during an all-alumni luncheon, class reunion dinners, and special Sunday morning brunches. The Yale Law School Association Award of Merit was awarded to four alumni who were instrumental to the founding of the Natural Resources Defense Council and have had distinguished careers focusing on environmental issues: *Richard E. Ayres '69*, Principal, Ayres Law Group; *John E. Bryson '69*, Retired Chairman & CEO, Edison International; *J. Gustave Speth '69*, Professor of Law, Vermont Law School, and former dean, Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies; and *Edward L. Strohbehn, Jr. '69*, Attorney, Bingham McCutchen. Photos and videos <http://www.law.yale.edu/alumni/aw10media.htm> of Alumni Weekend 2010 are now available on the YLS website. _*Save the Date! Alumni Weekend 2011 will take place November 4-6, 2011.*_ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Federalist Society Chapter Flourishes ** The Yale Federalist Society <http://www.law.yale.edu/stuorgs/fedsoc.htm> hosted 25 events last year, some jointly with Yale Law School's American Constitution Society, on topics including the War on Terror, the government bailout of the auto industry, the Establishment Clause, the relation of administrative agencies to the judiciary, and state constitutional law. The current school year got off to a rousing start September 7 with a talk by former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove titled "Resolved: Repeal Obamacare." | Article <http://www.law.yale.edu/news/12222.htm> | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Students Play Key Role in Historic Proposition 8 Marriage Case ** A federal judges ruling in early August on same-sex couples' right to marry was welcome news to Yale Law School students involved in the case. The students had worked on _Perry v. Schwarzenegger_ as part of their participation in the San Francisco Affirmative Litigation Project (SFALP <http://www.law.yale.edu/academics/SFALP.htm>) working with the San Francisco City Attorney's Office. SFALP co-founder and faculty advisor *Heather Gerken*, the J. Skelly Wright Professor of Law, said, The students did an incredible amount of work on the case and often worked under intense timelines. But they were thrilled to do it. After all, how many law students get a chance to work on a case like this? Some people are calling it the trial of the century. At the very least, this case seems destined for the history books, and Im proud that our students were part of it. | Article <http://www.law.yale.edu/news/12216.htm> | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Recent YLS Lectures, Debates, and Panel Discussions Available Online ** <http://ylsqtss.law.yale.edu:8080/qtmedia/events10/StudentOrg2010_s.mov>Though you may be far from New Haven, we invite you to take a virtual seat in some of the recent lectures and other events held at the Law School.
