Wednesday - October 27, 2010 From the School Information for 9th Grade Parent Conference Day on Friday, November 12 Teacher conferences for parents of ninth-graders will be held on Friday, November 12. There will be no classes that day. Parents may register for up to three conferences beginning Friday, November 5, when first-quarter teacher comments will be available to view online. To register, please log into the Parent Portal and click on the link to Educator Online. Registration closes online on Wednesday, November 10 at noon. Please contact Diana Lazarus, 9th Grade Dean (lazarusd@sidwell.edu), if you have any questions.Summer Opportunity in Japan for Sophomores and Juniors 2011 Japanese Language and Culture Summer Study ProgramFor the 26th year, Sidwell Friends School will send four of its students, three students from area schools, and one Sidwell Friends faculty member to Japan for approximately three weeks during July 2011. The mission of the program is to help students learn about the culture and history of Japan, and to foster cross-cultural friendships. The program is open to sophomores and juniors. We will be able to really spread out and leap high here! To celebrate this year’s new student initiatives within our greater campus visibility, we will host Studio Grand Opening performances on October 27th at 4:30 and 7 p.m. This event will bring together all movement and dance students grades 7 - 12. Be sure to invite your friends, family members and teachers. Plan to stay for potluck dinner too! PA Announcements US Community Service Day - Thanks! This year's US Community Service Day on October 12 was blessed with fine weather and great support from our SFS community. Students, faculty and some parents performed many hours of volunteer service in local parks, community centers, shelters, senior centers and feeding programs. Students ended the day with a mini-walk around the turf field raising awareness about homelessness and funds for our partner agencies and their clients. Our thanks to all students who returned their Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Mini-Walk forms. We also thank our wonderful volunteers for providing transportation for the students and faculty.
