I am involved with a way cool group in Key West - where I live when not in Villanova - and we have organized a sailing regatta with the Hemingway Marina in Havana, Cuba (only 90 miles away) and their sailing team (some members might be their Olympians) scheduled for April 2015.
We have applied to the US Treasury Department for the necessary permit in October 2014 and have answered their queries regarding our plan to provide sailing workshops as well as exhibition races for the Cuban public viewing, but it's been weeks since we have heard anything and there are a ton of planning details that must be organized in advance.
This people-to-people exchange comes at a perfect time as your dad and the President are breaking down cultural walls. The President's announcement a couple weeks ago was a very pleasant surprise.
I am humbly requesting that someone from your dad's office contact the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control to check on our application (case #: CT-2014-313546-1 - Key West Community Sailing Center).
As you are well aware, your dad knows me well and I truly believe he would love this exciting opportunity to strengthen the sporting bonds between our two people. I would never let him down!
