Hi Katie – I wanted to extend an invitation for a special sneak preview of
the soon-to-be released film, DESERT DANCER – a drama by Relativity Media
about a young dancer in present-day Iran, starring Slumdog Millionaire’s
Freida Pinto, Reece Ritchie, Tom Cullen, among others. Additional
information re: the film is included below.


Sunshine Sachs is working with the film and thought it might be of interest
to you. The screening is this Sunday (Jan. 18) at the Newseum at 1pm in
their Documentary Theater. Please RSVP to me (feel free to bring a guest!)
and I will make sure you have a ticket at the front door, which grants you
free admission to the Newseum building, and the screening of course. The
director will be in attendance for the screening and will participate in a
Q&A session post screening. Additional information is below.

Special Sneak Preview: “DESERT DANCER” @ Documentary Theater | Washington |
District of Columbia| The Newseum presents a special sneak preview of the
new movie “DESERT DANCER,” the true story that follows the brave ambition
of Afshin Ghaffarian. During the volatile climate of the 2009 presidential
election, where many cultural freedoms were threatened, Afshin and some
friends risk their lives and form an underground dance company. DESERT
DANCER will be released in the U.S. on April 10, 2015. With the recent
arrest of Iranians who created a dance video for Pharrell Williams’ hit
song Happy, and ongoing suppression of music and dance, this timely and
thought-provoking film is set in the background of political upheaval,
demonstrating the current connection between arts, foreign policy, and the
fight for freedom.


A Q&A with director Richard Raymond will follow.
